1. Does total justice exist in the world today?
No. People are robbed, cheated, starved, tortured and killed. Many of their tormentors get away with murder all their lives. That's not justice.
Good people sometimes suffer terrible deaths. Some die an inch at a time from cancer, while some very wicked people die painlessly in their sleep. Where's the justice in that?
Adolph Hitler was responsible for the deaths of 50 million people. Could he possibly have been punished sufficiently on this earth? Hitler was so afraid of suffering that he shot himself to guarantee a quick and painless death, and then bit down on a cyanide capsule just in case. Mao Zedong murdered 25 million Chinese when he came to power in 1949 and millions more afterward. Josef Stalin murdered 30 million Ukrainians by starvation, besides millions more who were shot, worked to death, or frozen to death. Both Mao and Stalin died peaceful deaths. If they had been arrested and punished as much as we could punish them, how could justice possibly be done to these men? That is impossible in this life, but not in the next life. Total justice does not exist in this life.
2. God is just.
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.” [ii]
“But the LORD Almighty will be exalted by his justice, and the holy God will show Himself holy by his righteousness.”[iv]
“And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. . . “However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" [v]
3. When will justice be done?
Justice is not done in this life, so it must be after this life. How many lifetimes would it take to punish Hitler for 50 million deaths? Stalin for another 50 million? Mao Zedong for another 50 million?
Logically, if justice will be done, it will be after this life. That fits with the Biblical doctrine of hell, and of proportionate punishment for the wicked and proportionate reward for the righteous.
